my car will not start

hi all i have a 1986 420 sel i bought a 8 months ago ran perfect a recently had to change the altanator and was back on the road a few day ago i went to start it and it wouldnt kick over like the batt. was dead had it checked it was fine then thought it might be the starter change that but still have the same problem i am getting power to the starter but still does not kick over like if its stuck put it in neutral still nothing does anyone know what it can be ?

Most likely the neutral safety switch failed. Do a search and you should find plenty of reading. It's essentially a starter lockout when the car is in gear.

You can remove the starter and have it checked. The top bolt is a pain to get to though. I would also check the coil.
