M104 / E 320 questions.

'94 E 320

First question: How many wire harnesses are there on the engine? The main harness running to the sensors and such is nice and fresh, cut into the wrap in several places to verify. On one of my cars however, there is some degradation to the wires going to the starter. I'm also reading about a different harness to the throttle (which I have not verified is new). Are they usually all replaced at the same time?

Second question: If I have a malfunction of the electronic throttle such that it goes into "limp-home" mode, will the cruise control function?

The reason I ask the second question is I have two '94 E 320s, one with ASR and one without. The ASR car seems to have a very linear feel to the throttle where the non-ASR car seems to be a bit touchy. Further, on the non-ASR car, when you push the pedal down (with cruise on), you can feel where you start to open the throttle in additional resistance to moving the pedal at the point where you accelerate off of the cruise setting. On the ASR car, you can't feel it in the pedal.

Both cars' cruise-controls work flawlessly, no error codes, but the non-ASR car's throttle feel seems more like a cable-operated throttle.

Tia.
