E55 or E320 CDi?

Strange question I know. My dad is buying a new car and is looking at a '99 E55, or a '01 320CDi.
He currently owns a '93 500SE.
Please can someone give me some arguments in favour of the 55 other than just raw power and speed.
The cars cost the same amount.

Please help!! I want E55!!!
