1989 Mercedes 500 SEL (European Model) Wiper motor and sunroof R&R….

1. Does anyone know how to remove the wiper motor and assembly on a 126? I have a friend that owns a 1989 500 SEL (European Model) and the wiper have stopped working. I was thinking about getting the parts from the local salvage yard.

2. Is the sunroof on a 1989 500 SEL (European Model) the same as the sunroof on any other 126. The same friend’s son was driving the car and the sunroof track had been removed on one side, and the sunroof blew out while riding down the road. I checked the car and all of the hardware that moves the roof is still in tack. Now I want to get a replacement from the salvage yard.

The sedan euro wiper assemblies are different from the coupe ones, but their wiper motors are the same, you can save the arms and blades from the old motor assemblies that don't work.

The wiper motors need to be fitted to the left and right side (right motor/ on right side, left motor/ on left side) and the gears inside the motor need to be set so the wiper motors return to the "park" position after being used every time.

Euro wiper motors are harder to find in US junk yards than US ones, but they do show up sometimes, but not that much. There is a possibility than Gen. I motors (1980-1985) are the same as Gen II (1986-1991) but those are impossible to find in US yards, because there was no real gray market for Mercedes anymore beginning for the 1986 m y cars.

(Mercedes USA gray market was destroyed starting 1986 due to congressional lobbying, by Mercedes Benaz USA, readjustment of DM and introduction of 560 motor in USA in beginning in 1986 m y)

My car is getting some repair work done at the body shop and will be ready tomorrow (somebody hit me in a parking lot, didn't leave a note). When I pick it up, I'll be replacing the windsheild wiper assembly. I'll let you know how I did it. EDIT: based on the post above mine, this might not be helpful. I know my 1985 has 1 motor, not 2. (I'll have to double check this because it looks like they all use the same part number).

On 2 - can you believe it, the same thing happened to me! Although, my sunroof stayed attached to the car (went like an air brake), the only damage was scratches at the back corners of the sunroof. I actually never thought to try the button, and neither had the body shop (fixing the door someone hit) the last time I spoke to them. I'll find out tomorrow if it works, cross your fingers for me!

Hey, I just saw you're in Richmond. I'm just a stone's throw away down on the peninsula.

What's a good MB salvage yard around here? I've just been finding individuals with parts cars.

Chesterfield Auto Parts - (http://www.chesterfieldauto.com/location.htm) Pay one dollar and pick the parts your self located just outside of Richmond. One of my favorite places.

Circle Auto Recycling - Located 30 mile south of Richmond and is the same type of place as before.

Bruce's Auto Parts - (http://www.bruceautoparts.com/yard_tour.php) Off of 64 east near Richmond. Parts are higher because they pulled them and catalog them for you.

M&M Salvage - (http://www.mandmautosalvage.com/) Located near Charlottesville Va about 1.5 hours west of Richmond. Prices are higher because they catalog them for you and will ship parts. They are also on line. Excellent resource for foreign parts. 1-800-533-4099

Fisher Auto Parts - Closer to you in Tappahannock va k Virgina toward the eastern shore.

I hope this helps....Let me know if I can further assist you.

Ron
