Dash Security light

On my wife's 1995 E300D there is a little light on the dash above the A/C control. It's one of the black rectangle things where the head rest, re-cir, rear dome lights are.

I looked in the manual and all it says is that it's a security light. What makes it turn on? I locked the car with the key and nothing. The light on the radio flashes but the dash light just sits there. Any ideas? I realize this is not on the top ten list of issues to be fixed on any car but I am curious why it does not work or what makes it work.

Thanks

Does the alarm work??

ie; you roll drivers window open & lock car with key...allow 10 seconds & reach in the car & open the door...does the alarm go on/off?

Just checked and it does not.

Can you give me some pointers of where to start looking? Fuses, connections .. etc? Thanks

Try locking from the passenger door lock next, or the trunk. Central locking works okay doesn't it?

Fuses are good to check, it is also possible that the security module was not operating properly and is disconnected: Black box marked: Becker under the passenger carpet & plastic floor.

Do you have the (optional) keyless entry? That could also be a "key" piece of information ;~)

Just tried locking at both doors and trunk still no worky. I checked the fuse box (flip up panel with latch similar to air filter box) and did not see anything labeled alarm. There is a square black panel right behind it with 4 screws. Are there additional fuses in there?

It does not have key less entry.

I cannot check the module on the passenger side now. Wife is going to school and she likes her car in one piece when driving. Go figure

No fuses there, just relays.

Wives; don't like that "work in progress" thing.

I believe that the keyless entry is extremely uncommon on the '95, will have a window on each door handle and one next to the trunk lock if it has it (InfraRed remote).

So where is the fuse for the alarm or isn't there one? Definitely no key less entry on this one.
