Question E320 Running lights won't shut off...Help

The day time running lights on my 2000 E320 do not shut off when I turn the ignition off and remove the key. The switch allows me to access (and turn on and off) all of the other lighting modes/options, but the running lights stay on. I have to remove a battery cable at night to avoid draining the battery. I replaced the original battery (got almost 9 years out of it), but the problem remains. Any advice?

2000 E320
102,000 miles

Thanks

Either a problem with the headlamp switch OR the alarm system.

Ok, Thank you. Is there a relay associated with the alarm system, or the light switch? If so, I'm thinking that might be a good place to start.

The headlight switch is a computer. Does several functions including turning off the lamps when you exit the car.

The alarm (ATA) also is part of a control unit (PSE), also referred to as central locking.

Both can & should be diagnosed with a MB scanner.

Be sure you understand that up = off. Anything left of up is standing lights.

Ok, I will take it in and have it scanned. In the mean time, if anyone has any additional info or ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks to all.
