Door is making a "popping" noise

The driver's side door on my 96 c280 is making a very loud popping noise when the door is moves past the 15 degrees open position (happens when either opening or closing the door). Is there a part that wears out and needs to be replaced? Seems like it come from the attachment (detente?) at the lower part of the door. And what would be the procedure to fix? Thanks.

Check the door strap. It sounds like what mine did when it was loose.

AKA "door check". If it is like my '98 then it is made of metal. You can buy a new one but it will not be painted ,it will be goldish color. I tried rebuilding mine but it is very difficult. To remove it you have to remove the door panel and it is held with 3 bolts I think.

I had the same issue with my W202. I used WD40 and it went away.

It was the door check. Literally, iwrock was correct, it was loose meaning all 3 bolts were loose and just needed to be tightened. I have a brand new, unopened in plastic bag, door check I will probably put up for sale on ebay. Anyone need to buy one?

I'd probably just keep it, they all wear out eventually.

If you bought it at the dealer they will take it back.

if its going to break though make sure to replace it asap. i would hate to see you push the door open and not stop due to a broken door stop and swing all the way around and have body damage. mine did the same thing.
