removing mirror housing-2000 E320

I'm not familiar how to release the plastic mirror cover from the mirror
framework. on my 99, it was easy as pie: tweak retaining wire as
depicted in the MB video. with the 00, they have a slightly different
mechanism and the spring retaining wire isn't there/seen/used. don't
want to break anything so your experience is appreciated.

The mirror cover locks on a SPRING (wire). That is at the outer curved area.

tnx Doc for the tip. do I poke straight at it, or is it pressed to the side (to-
wards the plastic...or towards the mirror)? i'll give it a go again. not my car
so want to be sure i'm doing it correctly.

well, turns out the the retaining device was no spring wire at all, like I thought.

So MBDoc, you may want to update your information file. Here is the flat
metal spring 'flap' which needs to be depressed to release the mirror cover for
face lifted models. I don't know how far this design extends into 211 models.
one arrow points to plastic catch molded into the housing. the other arrow
identifies the location to depress the metal catch.
