CPS location on 400E

I want to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on my '93 400E.

I found this DIY pictorial which is pretty good.

http://pingelblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/c43-amg-crankshaft-position-sensor.html

However this is the M113 motor.

Can someone please tell me if this applies to the M119 or if not, what else is involved. Thanks for any help.

Bad news - your car has two parts named the crankshaft position sensor. It's like the Larry character on the Bob Newhart Show that had two brothers named Darryl - very confusing. One goes to the front crankshaft, from the wiring harness I believe. But if you're trying to solve an operating problem you're likely more interested in the other one - that goes from the ignition control module on the left (driver) inside fender to the top of the bell housing, a bit left of center, accessed from below, allen bolt as I recall, tight but doable if you can get the car off the ground a bit.

Hmmmm confusing indeed.Sometimes I have to crank the starter several seconds before the motor starts.
So, I guess the second one you spoke of? Any idea of the part number on that?

Thanks for the info.

AllPartsExpress shows both of them - http://www.allpartsexpress.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=&yearid=1993%40%401993&makeid=MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&engineid=1194656%40%40400E++%2F+V8%2D4196cc+4%2E2L+GAS+FI%40%40400E&keyword=sensor&subcatid=Crank+Position+Sensor@@Crank+Position+Sensor%2FIgnition+System&mode=PA but those symptoms could be a lot of things, better to read the fault codes first. Bad Crand Position Sensor is code 17 on pin 17.
