Perhaps the flap is stuck in the 'high' RPM position, so power is suffering at low RPMS?
But probably wouldn't leave and instant-suffering, so scratch that.

If you're low on power from launch, you might have other problems.

For reference, my daughter's non-ASR '94 will smoke both tires from a stop on dry pavement, no problem. There should be lots of power at low-end and even more around 3200 or so giving you a boost feeling, but not a gutless/powerful type of transition.

Yeah it got lots of low end power, it will do a burnout even with a crappy tranny...
