Wow, who even knew there was such a thing! I don't think we have had any carbureted MB's here in the US for a long time before 1989.
Anyway, I had Stomberg 175's on a 1974 Jaguar XJ12L. 4 on the engine, actually. And believe it or not, as I sit here in my office, I have the Haynes Manual for Stromberg CD carbs on my desk, which covered carbs up to 1976. I don't know what changes have been made since that era, however. Mine had manual choke, so you may want to check your choke linkage, if it has one. Make sure the carb is filled with damper oil, I used to use Marvel mystery oil, and make sure your float is free and the level is set correctly. The needle should be in good shape. Gaskets need to be set properly, make sure you have not pinched one and created a vacuum leak, and the main diaphragm is intact with no holes. The jet assembly should be surgically clean, O rings good. The only thing I can see in the book regarding the float angle says (and this is for a "Series CDSE and CD-2SE" model, so take it with a grain of salt) "With the carb inverted, check that the highest point of the float above the face of the body with the inlet needle valve closed is 16 - 17 mm, and the tag on the arm contacts the needle at a right angle." Not sure what else I can tell you, it is a fairly simple carb to put a kit into, good luck. Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300D, 287K Last edited by Chris W.; 04-23-2009 at 01:12 PM. |
