the correct spring compressor. otherwise, it's a reckless, possibly deadly, operation. good luck, chuck.

I started hearing this scratching sound, at first I thought it was the shock. But today, this afternoon I decided check it the car, I pushed the front end down kind of bouncing the car. I went under the car and only to discover that the top part of the spring that goes into the housing cut diagonally. It's like someone used a hacksaw to cut the spring.

What else do I need to know?

Thanks for your input.

May you please explain, what do you mean by FSM?

I only have the following information:
Disconect upper shock mount
Raise and support vehicle
Remove wheek assembly and attach coil spring compressor
Place jack under lower control arm and tighten spring compressor
Lower jack and remove coil spring

Is this enough, what are the extras

Factory Service Manual.

You DO realize you need the $200 tool to compress this spring properly, don't you?

That is the style there, I buy most of my MB and BMW tools from them.

Just be careful as hell. Broken springs can do funky things when you try to compress them........

I took the car to a spring specialist here in Toronto and had them installed for CAD$120.00, and I think it was the best deal. I agree the procedure is deadly.

Thank you for all the help.
