Flasher inop.
I have never had one go bad in a car before. Is there something specific to check?
The lights for the both turn signals all work they are just solid, not flashing. It does the same thing with the hazard switch. All the turn signal lights come on, but no flashing.

I've had a couple go bad in my VW...an $11 flasher relay (decades ago) solved the problem.
I am assuming you are referring to your 300D in the sig? I don't know if MB designed a combination relay in 1985 or just used separate relays for the electrics, but that is what you need to find out. My intermittent wiper system went kaput on my 93 300E, and I replaced the combination relay...which also controlled the flashers and I believe the rear window defogger(?). Those other components worked fine, but with the bad wiper circuit, you still had to replace the whole relay...around $100 a few years ago. I would check near the engine fuse panel...look for black "cubes", which are typically plug-in relays...quick and easy to replace.

Flasher Inoperative
It is your combination relay located under the hood next to the fuse box. I ordered mine through the internet for about $76. If you are really motivated, you can open the relay and resoder/repair the broken connection.

Don't want to confuse anyone but...
If it is the same as my old faithfull 82 300D the flasher relay is located in the centre console just forward of the gear selector lever.

Thanks for the replies. I have been too busy to mess with this until today.
So, is the flasher relay under the hood or under the center console inside the car? I don't see any black cubes out by the fuse box. I can re-solder it if I can identify it and pull it out.

Ok... I fixed it (for now).
The relay was under the center console zebrano. It literally took all of 10 minutes to pull it, fix it and put it back. I pulled the ashtray, removed the 2 screws securing the ashtray bracket, removed the bracket, slid the zebrano back and pulled the relay out (it is in front of the shifter on the 85 model). I then pulled the cover off the relay, opened the contacts, sprayed contact cleaner on the contacts and on anything else that looked dusty or greasy, reassembled the cover, put dilectric grease on the pins and put it back in. It works perfectly now. I ran the flasher for about 30 minutes and went for a drive and ran the turn signal for about 5 minutes on each side. So, I guess I can call it fixed for now. The relay is original and has 5/85 stamped on the side.
