oil pan gasket question

I was having oil leak issues on my lower timing cover and what I thought was from the oil pan as well..... Well, I pull my oil pan off (that was fun) and I do not have a gasket between the block and oil pan, no hint of one, and from what I can tell it does not look like sealant was used at all.

is this normal?

M103 or M104 I take it through my magical powers of intuition?

The oil pan should have a gasket.
