How to adjust the 1-2 shift feel on a '94 E420?

I want to soften the 1-2 upshift as it's a bit harsh and happens too early. What can I adjust on this car?

Vacuum modulator - make sure hose is connected and you have no leaks.
Control pressure cable - should be adjusted to the point of no slack.

Thanks. Do you know where on the trans the modulator would be and where is the cable adjusted?

The modulator is a vacuum diaphragm on the driver's side of the transmission housing. The control pressure cable is adjusted where it connects to the throttle linkage.
