300e - New springs and now ride hight like SUV?
Hello all:
I just got new front springs installed on my '87 300e (the original had a crack). Now the height of the front is about an inch higher than the back. I think I measured the distance of the fender arch from the tire as 9.5 inches! the front distance is kind of like a Subaru Forrester. I always liked Mercedes SUV's, but making mine into one wasn't my idea. Anyway, here is the kicker - it seems when I back up the front goes down to normal height and stays there when parked, but as I drive forward it elevates back to the original too high height, and stays there when I park. What gives? I should just drive in reverse all the time, right? Perplexed, Lui P.S. I also had the steering box replaced and now of course the steering wheel is crooked. ( Needs alignment to fix? |

OK - I need to learn to search first -- I think I found my answer (need a w124 suspension expert!) - except for the backing up causing the car to be lowered part. . . any takers?

Did you drive the car and it is level now? Does backing lower it, and forward raise it?

Yes, backing lowers it, and forward raises it. So the ride height is correct when I drive backwards, but as soon as I drive forward, we are in Range Rover mode (more like Forrester, though).
