300te high pressure hose???
1989 300te. There is a 'high pressure hose' that runs to the steel tubing back to the rear suspension. The 'high pressure hose' is in the front of the engine compartment. I need to find out the proper name / # of this part, as I am trying to find a used one. The one that is currently in my car was made at a shop and I believe it is the cause of a loud whinning sound as the engine revs....it is soooo annoying during highway driving. I want to p/u a used one to see if, in fact, it's the cause...a new one, I am told, is upwards of $200.

is this a 4-matic? I have a 1990 300TE non 4-matic and don't have this other than possible brake and fuel lines. It's the rear suspension part I don't get....what could be back there and what is the concern I reckon my questions would be....cliff

It's the hydraulic fluid hose that exits the pump via this hose and is then transferred to the steel hose to the accumulators in the rear. The hose has dampers in it to absorb the vibrations of the pumping of the fluid. It is thought that the hose that I have is the wrong I.D., thus these dampers are causing the vibrations/ rattling/ whining. There are some prior threads about this very same situation. I just need some info about the hose, or someone who would like to part with one.

I doubt it's the hose, I've read the later hoses did not have those inserts. I rebuilt this hose and have no noise. Whining noise is likely a bearing or something continuously moving. Have you tried a mechanics stethoscope to isolate the noise source?

Well, I was planning on spending no more than $40 total. The reason being:
1. I haven't a clue if this is THE problem. 2. If it works, I will get a new hose to give me extended life...I really don't want to rely on an old hose (no offense)...it's a horrible item to have bust on you!. So, if you want to do $40 total...shipped to me in NY, it's cool with me. |
