Parking Brake shoes causing clicking?
I put some new wheels on my wagon and I am getting clicking on the rear right side. I have shaved off some length on the lug nuts, removed them countless times and it keeps clicking.
Could broken parking brake shoes be causing this? Any other ideas? The left rear is fine! Its only the right.

Indeed they could. Mine were making noise on my 300E, when I took it all apart I found: missing hardware (lower spring was never even installed) and one of the small retaining springs for one of the shoes had broken, and thus the shoes were flopping all over in there. No wonder the parking brakes didn't work!
After replacing everything they work perfectly. I'd pull the rotor and have a look at the situation.

It just seems weird that one side does it and the other does not. I even swapped the lug nuts from one side to the other and its still coming from the right.
Heres the new rims I decided on. The 18's were just really limiting my ability to drop the wagon in the future. I'm much happier. ![]()

It was only on one side on my 300E too....as only the one side had a broken mounting spring....but both sides were missing the lower shoe-retract springs.

Same issue...17" rims, lugs too long, buggered up the spring and thus caused clicking on the LEFT hub.
I shortened the lugs, but it took some replacements parts to stop the clicking...

I luckily still had a 5mm spacer lying around. Popped that on and it stopped. Will do for a temporary measure.
Do the springs come out with the shoes? Any point in replacing them for good measure as everything is out or are they not a wear item?

I just replaced the spring...shoes looked fine.
The only one who ever uses the e-brake on that car is my indie...his lot is on a steep incline.
