1995 E320 check engine LED light....

I need help on what this code means and to which of these items is most likely to be my proble. The car has been starting in spells. It will start fine for a while and then it will hit a spell where it will not start 3 or 4 times and then fire right up. It doesn't matter if the car is hot or cold, it does it both ways. The car runs perfect when it does crank. And to make sure everyone knows exactly where I am coming from the car does turn over but just doesn't fire. I made the homemade check engine light tester and found it has one code which is #2 on Pin 14. I have no idea where to start looking or if my starting issue is because of #2. Could anyone let me know where the most logical place is to start to solve my problem.

PIN 14 CC/ETA
1 No fault found
2 EA/CC/ISC control module (N4/1) or Safety contact switch (M16/1s1) or Stop lamp
switch or Cruise control switch or Actual value potentiometer or Starter lock-out/back-up
lamp switch or engine speed signal or vehicle speed signal or closed throttle position
switch or safety relay in EA/CC/ISC control module

Little confusion in your postings

You say it runs fine when it does crank..so, does it not crank sometimes???

And you mention a Check Engine light..IS the CE light ON ????

Yes the car cranks most of the time. Every now and then I will go out and the car will just turn over and over and never start. Sometimes I can stop trying to crank it and try again right away and it will fire up. Sometimes I will try 3 or 4 times and it will not crank, I can walk away and come back in a few minutes and it will fire right up. When it does start it runs fine. The check engine light isn't on, I just figured I would try the LED tester you talked about and it did show the code I spoke of in the first post. What do you think?

I see what you mean now..

In the auto biz, CRANK means the starter is turning the engine over , and turning the engine over does not mean the engine RUNS.

The term comes from the old cars with a Hand Crank that one used to start the engine. Cars now have a Starer motor to do that Cranking job.

So, what you have is a car that does crank over, but does not Start.
My first suspect on that car would be the OVP relay
Check the Archieves ..tons of info.

And when one mentions Check Engine led , we assume you mean "Check Engine " lamp is on.

Just terminology, but diagnosis is determined by it.....

The tool you made is not a Check Engine led , it is a Falsh Code retrieval tool.

Sorry for my terminology. The car turns over sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't. Anyway I did make the flash tool and it gave me two flashes from pin 14. Should I be conserned with this or what should I do? I will check the OVP. Thanks Arthur.

I would tap the OVP relay next time it does not start and I would take it out and replace it regardless if it is the original part#...they were troblesome and the new part# one should be used. [ Archieves]

On the codes , there is more confusion b/c you state a 1 - [ Single flash ] ans a 2 flash. That is impossible b/c a single flash means NO CODES STORED.

So, I would clear that module and then see what comes back...
