99 SLK 230 Unable to program garage opener

Guys - need help. The "integrated remote control" just above the inside rear view mirror will not program. What do I do?

Followed directions and it seemed to program OK. Key in position 2, hold one button on the SLK remote down until it blinks once per second. Continue holding down and aim the garage opener at it. Press button on garage opener remote until "integrated remote control" flashes rapidly.

All this worked. According to the Owner's Manual then "This means that the integrated remote control has accepted the frequency and code of the portable transmitter." Except that pushing the button on the SLK will not open or close the garage door.

So held down two outside buttons per instructions until the control light blinks rapidly and magically all the codes are supposedly erased.

Followed directions again and again. No luck. Thought maybe the left button had a problem so I tried to program the middle and then the right button; still no luck. The garage door opener does not seem to have a rolling code feature so the training instructions in the Owner's Manual do not apply.

Any idea what to do? Should not be a fuse if the lights in the SLK remote work. I think I followed the instructions, all the lights blinked properly including when erasing the codes. But the integrated remote control will not lower the garage door.

Thanks for your help.

I have a 2001 SLK230 and I programmed my left and right buttons to open 2 garage door openers, which are both Stanley fixed code systems.

With the ignition in position 2, I held the transmitter 2 to 5 inches from the rear view mirror and pressed the garage door transmitter button and the SLK button at the same time, the indicator lamp on the SLK started flashing slowly, then rapidly. Then, I released both buttons at the same time and pressed the SLK button and the garage door opener operated.

Did it exactly your way; still nothing. Stumped. Could there be a fuse that operates the part which transmits - so that it accepts the code but is unable to transmit??

seems like I heard something on the radio about this

problem and I don't remember the years, but MB had problems with certain brands of opener and not being compatible with the proper frequency range - wish I remembered more details, but maybe someone else can fill in the details on the garage opener fiasco.

(still using muscles to open his garage doors unfortunately)

...also do a search for this type of issue...you aren't the first that's posted about problems coding the HomeLink feature...lots of instructions posted here about how others got theirs to work.

Try this....Key in #2 position, hold down the outer two buttons until the light starts steady blinking, release, then choose and press/hold one button, hold your remote close and press. When the light starts blinking rapidly, it should be programmed.

Hit the "learn" button on your garage opener motor and follow the procedure in the car as outlined in the owners manual. It will not pick up from the remote - this is what I had to do with the W220 which may or may not be applicable to your SLK. It takes two people to accomplish this.

Does a car really have to have a built in remote control for a garage door? People have been clipping these things onto sun visors for years with no problems. To me this is simply another example of how far M-B has strayed from its previous focus on providing reliable transportation.

I am sure there will come a day (like the printer) that when you buy a garage door it won't come with openers. They will need to be purchased separately.
