97 e420 AC Pressure readings

Does anyone know the low pressure and high pressure settings? I need to diagnose the car.

Yes, I know there are keystrokes inside and someone can post them as I do not know them, but I am still old school and like to read my gauges while I fill.

The problem is that the inside air is slowly getting warmer, but if I put the temp lower, the air gets colder. Now I assume that this should not make the car colder, only air run longer. Perhaps a sensor is out, but first things first. Check the pressures. Then fill, and if you have a fill procedure please let me know. I know some of you speak of filling high side, which in my training is suicide, but then again, I am not a MB guy by trade.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

check the AC pressures. Low side should be about 40PSI and the high side should be about 230 PSI.

The pressures vary quite a bit depending on the temperatures.

Yes, the air gets colder if you set the control to a lower temperature. The system does not work like a home AC unit.

Home units run 100% until you get cool enough, then shut off. Yours runs 100% (even in the winter, as long as it is above 3C) and the air is reheated in the heater cores to get the proper vent temperature, which depends on the setting and interior temperature.

A good rule of thumb is with pressures stabilized, engine running about 1,500 RPM and a high volume fan blowing simulated ram air through the condensor, the high side can be as high as 2.2 times ambient temperature. This means that with 100 degree ambient measured at the condensor, you would have 220PSI high side. With inadequate air flow, it would be higher and unknown.
