Thumbs Up To Mercedes First Aid Kit

So I'm well past the the "don't break the hymen phase" on our wagon's first aid kit and I wanted to give it a big thumbs up! Our 1994 wagon's kit sat in its virgin state for about then years. Then two boys, ages seven and five, got into the injury at random moments stage. In the past two years, I've used the very comprehensive, vintage 1994 medical supplies many, many times. The last time was Saturday when the five year old could not hold back his excitement and just had to run and go ahead of the family group at the mini-golf course. I heard him before I saw him. Screaming like his life was in danger, splayed out two holes ahead of our group on the surprisingly steep fourteenth fairway. There was actually a trickle of blood coming out of a flesh wound on his right knee. He was hyperventilating and about to faint at the sign of his own blood trickling out of his leg. Thank God for Dr. Mercedes and his trusty, oversized bandages, ointment, and nursing tape. After he was patched up, the kid went on to score two holes in one.

GREAT STORY!

If it weren't the law in Germany that cars had to have one, the ones here in the US would never have had them either. Guess we have the German gov't to thank.

Of course being MB quality your bandages and tape were still sterile and sticky after 15 years! Way to go MB

You are very lucky, both of mine were pillaged before I got the cars

I have to make due with a Johnson and Johnson kit in the original compartment.

Thats good it was useful. I looked at mine the other day and I'm not sure I would use mine. I think the bandages might disentegrate if touched!

You can find them on e-bay real cheap. I replaced both my old-style first-aid kits with newer ones that have nice nylon cases for less than $25.

you know,it would be a really good PR stunt if mercedes had a plan to swap out old first aid kits for new ones[say 10 yrs old or older].

I couldnt get rid of mine as its just about the only original thing left in my car! It would be a good thing however to get a newer one in my car as I have an extra unused storage space next to the first aid kit. Hmmm... I wonder how much a new one is?

****Edit****
Just checked dealer price for a new C class. $36.00

I've collected several original kits from junk yard cars....some of them never used. So all of our cars have one now. I think my brothers 300D was the only car to still have the original when purchased.

Maybe sometime I will get a newer one for my car.

What a great idea! My recently purchased '85 190D was missing the first aid kit, so I took the one out of my '89 coupe to put into the diesel. Even though unused, it looks pretty beat up. I placed bids on several eBay kits. Even a dealership in NoCal is selling them on eBay. Everybody sure charges a lot for shipping however. Ya just gotta look at the total price, then you won't feel like you're being ripped off.

First aid kits are required in cars in Germany. (As are spare bulb kits.)

If you want a "compact" first aid kit, see nearby BMW motorcycle dealer.

I pulled a complete first aid kit out of a 79 240 D today. By the time that the box got to the register, it had broken due to age. Brittle. The contents were J&J. Does any one know what the brand or make was of the original bandages, etc? Could they have been J&J? The Box was stamped "made in the USA". Neat. I didn't buy because the plastic box was dry and brittle; falling apart.

The kits in both my W140s were J&J. Both made in the USA.

The kit in my 1991 is also by J&J. I seem to remember there being something about the red cross on it too....
