W124 Transmission Removal ?

My 722.369 tranny finally needs a rebuild... dropping the transmission looks straight forward with the exception of the two transmission/engine bolts on top the bellhousing. Can someone tell me the trick to get at those two bolts? Is there a panel I need to pull from behind the dash? Does the trans just needed to be tlited back with the rear support off? ... What's the deal?
Thanks

Remove rear support and long, long extensions with breaker bar.

Of course much easier if car on hoist.

Yes....

We used 2 long extensions and a universal joint...I believe that the bolds are 17mm. We use a 3/8" drive socket..it fits well on the bolt. There's not a lot of clearance around the bolt to get the socket on. We used a breaker bar.

They are best done from the driver's side. I think that there are 10 bolts.

Wrap a turn or so of masking tape around the universal joint...to keep it from flopping around.

Have another person at the top with a flashlight to make sure you are on the bolt...then turn....once they are loose, they are fairly easy.

If your car is on on jack-stands, there won't be a lot of room...

Have fun!
