transmisson problem
I have a 88 300E. The car shifts fine in the a.m. After it's been driven in the hot weather it doesn't want to shift correctly. I'm not the technical wizard and am hoping for a simple explanation of what could possibly be the problem.

Start by checking the fluid level hot.

gmercoleza is right ... check the AT fluid when it is hot. Hot weather and hot driving tend to "thin" the AT fluid. Yours might be a quart or two low. Like engine oil, AT fluid needs periodic replacement. When was the last time you changed your AT fluid? Costs very little, and that should be the first step in any attempt to solve the problem ... especially if it looks black or has a dark, dark burgundy color.
