W202 - C200 Diesel Won't Start Red/Green Alt Flashing Mirro

Hi,

I have a problem with my 1995 C-Class C200 Diesel with flip key. The key fob locks and unlocks the car no problem. But when I put the key into the ignition and turn to position two the rear view mirror lights flash alternative, and so the car won't start. It gets going but then cuts out, so it looks like the immobilizer is cutting off the fuel pump.

I have replaced the batteries in key fob, didn't work. Re-synced the key with car, didn't work. Tried second key fob for car, didn't work. Disconnected the car battery for a week, didn't work.

What else can I do, my local garage isn't sure of the problem. Is there anyway to bypass the immobilizer to get the car going again? Or is there any other tricks I can try first.

Thanks in advance.

Alt R/G flashes should mean an unauthorized start.

Have you tried locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key blade?

On the early 210 (with the conventional cylinder for the ignition switch), the K40 relay module (think OVP) or the ignition switch contacts can cause this problem.

Thanks for reply. Yeah I have tried opening passenger door, my drivers door doesn't have a keyhole, instead it has two LEDs also red and green. They flash green when I use the fob to open the car, and red when lock. When I try to start they flash alternative red/green.

In the 1994-1997 W202 C-Class how does the flip key fob communicate with the immobiliser? Is there a chip in the key that relates the code via the ignition barrel? I was told the immobiliser unit is under the passenger footwell.

I don't know if you have a chip in your key. My '96 E does not, but I am not sure about the '97 which also uses a blade in the ignition cylinder.

I believe that in the early 210, the problem occurs when the computer does not receive power from the ignition switch or K40 module (both are involved). DAS notices that it can't communicate with the computer and shows non-authorized (DAS attempts to verify that the correct engine computer is installed in the car).

Thanks for reply Matt.

My C-Class C200 is from 1995, so just the flip key, I can't find a chip in the key fob when opened. Where is the K40 module in the W202?

Luke
