help with damaged front bumper on 2001 E320 Sport

Hi all,

A friend of mine backed in to my front bumped with his truck accidentally. Since it's a friend, I'm trying my best to take care of it myself. A piece popped off (highlighted in red below) that I managed to temporarily fit back on, but pieces which help secure it cracked off which were plastic. So I think it will never sit properly again. It is also scratched and a bit cracked.

So first, I was wondering if the piece in the above image is standard across all W210 models, or it is specific to the Sport edition since it has a different front lower bumper. I will be looking to replace this... hopefully I can find a painted used piece from a junkyard or something that is not cracked.

Second, it seems as though a screw broke on impact. This is pictured below. From looking at the other side of the car this screw is longer and goes through the lower bumper and is secured by a bolt and washer. I don't know where the bolt and washer went. If you look at the picture below the screw looks like it's cut in half.

The simplest thing to do would be to remove the screw and toss a new one in there to secure the bumper back to the frame... but if you look at this picture below now, it looks like it's rusted

I tried forcing it out with a wrench but it is not budging at all. I tried loosening it up with some oil, nothing. It really seems rusted to there, and the car underneath seems to be rusting a lot in general.

If anyone has any suggestions or feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it

Thanks!
George

It's going to cost you. Or somebody. That chromed plastic trim strip is about twice as long as the one I recently bought for my 2008 C300 (flying road debris got mine) and the cost was $40. I'll bet yours will be over $100.

As far as the generalized rust, well, it's a 210.

Come now, not all 210's are going to be rusty. Mine isn't, and it's a '96.

But that one does have some. You can see it easily in the first picture, creeping from the edge of the panel. That's going to make things harder.

I don't know that the screws in your car are the same as in my '96, but mine are integrated screws and washers. The washers do not come off. They're a bit expensive from the dealer too. They go into a tinnerman nut, but I am sure that MB calls that something else; the important thing is that you can cut the screw and replace the nut with a new one, should that be necessary.
