It sounds and looks as if the quality of these badges has slipped down hill.

I have had several of these badges beginning in about 1985 or so. Three of them are still on the grill of my 240D. All three of them are still in excellent shape and they have seen plenty of road debris. I have a 250,000 Km badge on my 300E that I got in about the year 2000 and that car is now about to get its half million kilometer badge so that badge has seen 250,000 Km of road use and it still looks excellent.

The one in the above picture just doesn't appear to be as nice as the old ones. I will see what a half million badge looks like soon. I expect it to be Gold in color but I would also expect it to be the same quality as the one shown above.

The second 250,000 km are way harder to reach than the first one They should have something in between like 400,000km badge.

I need to get one of those for the Dee8gonator. I have one on my wagon and I'm closing in on the 500,000 KM mark. It's pretty cool when that comes in the mail, eh?

With my 260 I have reached so far 481000 km and expect to reach 500 000km.

I would like to have a 500 000km. But here in Europe they don't do it.

Can some body guve me the reference of the part?

Actually I kind of see it differently.

When the high mileage awards were being issued in the seventies, 250,000 Kilometers was a more difficult milestone for cars in those days. It was not all that common for ANY car to make that kind of mileage in the days of carburetors. The diesel MB's made it with no trouble so they seemed to be the most common recipients.

Once fuel injection came along on gas engines of all makes, 150,000 miles ,even on a ragged old Chevy was, and now is,VERY common. A diesel or even a gas Benz of the eighties could reach 250,000 Km even if it wasn't very well cared for. IMHO the 250,000 Km badge should have been dropped altogether and these badges not handed out until a half million Km or more. I say this in spite of the fact that my 300E would not have sported a badge for the last ten years or so awaiting the half million mark.

With 250,000 Km being so easy to reach in a modern car of any make, the value of such an award is not nearly so great as it was in the early days of these awards.

My $0.02,

I sent in for mine on August 20,th when my car hit 155,000 miles.

I still haven't received it and I have over 160,000 miles on the car already, now, (I drive a lot!)

(Auto Body skin tested in North Las Vegas at 167* ^^^^ ) how long does it TAKE to get these? lol

Would it be recommended to clearcoat the new badge with something so it won't degrade, if the quality has gone down? <----- (Lots of stone chips get picked up on highway and desert driving)

I sent mine in on 6/18/2009 for 250K. I called 7/10 and they said it had been processed and would take 2-4 weeks. Still waiting.

When I got mine a while back it only took 2 weeks! I was shocked

2x on the clearcoat question. I'd like to keep mine looking fresh.

Nice 560SEC, there Jim. I wish I had one of those..... I've heard that that's the car Bruno Sacco drives these days. Gotta think that Bruno Sacco could have any MB he wants delivered to his door with a phone call, and he chose that one. Must be a very nice car.

Incidentally, anybody wonder why they call it the "High Mileage" award, yet the threshold is measured in kilometers? I guess "High Kilometerage" doesn't have a nice ring to it?
