s500 1994 odometer quit
Do you know if there is a fix for the odometer in 1994 S500 when both the trip and total odometers quit?. Happened once before but seemed to fix itself for about 1000 miles and now is out again. Any body got pictures of what I'm getting into if I pull the panel and start tinkering with it?
Thanks, Gary |

The speedometer and odometer are driven off the ABS sensor on the left front wheel and is a sine wave converted to a square wave in the ABS/ASR module. The work instructions indicate connecting and looking for a 4.0 volatge across pins 12 and 10 as the wheel spins and then using a frequency counter to check proportion to wheel speed. Also to check for voltage between pin 1 and 10 which should be battery voltage. You cant do much in the instrument panel.
I know this does not help much but gives you an idea. |

s500 1994 odometer quit
I think it must be gears in there somewhere. The speedo still works just fine, just the odometers have stopped.

I must have misread, sorry, I would assume there is a motor in the cluster since the speedo has no mechanical interface.

I don't know if the S-Class's odometer/speedometer is the same as the E-Class, but mine went out too (my speedometer is fine). Here's a picture of the gear that failed. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=270146.
I contacted a company that sells the gears and this is what they said about the missing gear in the picture: BODY,.aolmailheader {font-size:10pt; color:black; font-family:Arial;} a.aolmailheader:link {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:visited {color:magenta; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:active {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:hover {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} Hello The small gear is part # 10-022, 12 tooth gear cost is $28.00 which includes US Mail Priority to anywhere in the US. However the other two gears in this picture are made of the same poor plastic and also break. The other two gears are a 12/48 gear which is $32.00 and 16/48 gear which is $32.00. I would recommend replacing all of the defective gears but if you would just like to purchase the small 12 tooth gear you can order it over the phone using a credit card or on my website using PAYPAL.
