1995 E320 Won't start......
Car will turn over but I am not getting fuel. I tried a new fuel pump relay but I am not getting fire at my fuel pumps. What else could be my problem? Thanks

Break out the voltmeter and start tracing it back. Remove the relay and see if you have juice at the contacts of the relay when the ignition is on. If not, you know you have to keep going upstream. You might have a bad relay even though it's new. Can you hear it click when the key is turned on?
Also check for voltage at the fuse terminals in the fuse block for the circuit that sends power to the relay. Maybe the fuse is knackered. The fuses in older MBs are notorious for looking good and testing good with a VOM but they won't pass the current needed to run the pump because they break down. It is good practice for any MB that uses the ceramic type fuses to change them ALL out every 10 years. In fact you can buy a kit to do this - to change out all the fuses in the car and it's pretty cheap and is cheap insurance. A faulty ignition switch will also cause this, but until you do the tracing out of the circuits, you don't know for sure. Let us know what you find so we all learn from your experience! |
