Anti rattle clips on brake caliper.

I just replaced the rear brake calipers on my 16 valve because the old brake cylinders were seized. I broke the anti rattle clips that hold down the brake pads, not the retainer pins. Are these absolutely necessary to reinstall? I drove the car for a little bit and didnt hear any brake squealing from the rear. Please advise.

Also, the rebuilt calipers were a litle different than those I removed. The anti rattle clips from the original caliper was bigger than the gap on the rebuilt caliper. The rebuilt caliper was bought from carparts.com as un unloaded caliper.

How do you remove the rear discs? Do you have to really pound the **** out of them to make them release from the hub? Joe
