M103 and EHA follies - now what?
After chasing vacuum leaks, replacing a multitude of cracked rubber fuel injection parts, plugs, rotor, cap, wires...
I finally got to the EHA [probably should have done that first] After giving the EHA the quarter turn clockwise [some problems with this, the soft brass cap was stripped by a prior mechanic - extremely difficult to remove] the engine will now start when cold, and restart when hot. The duty cycle [pins 2 and 2] was about 92% [8% on the meter] at an irregular shaky idle. It's now at 78% - and does not seem to fluctuate. The idle is now smooth, but fast. During warmup, the engine returns to idle nicely after opening the throttle [it used to die]. Drivability has improved, and the transmission no longer is in top gear by 20 mph. It even downshifts when you stomp on the gas. But, after the test drive, in park, the idle speed wandered up and down irregularly for 30 to 40 seconds, then quit. So what to do next? - another quarter turn of the EHA? - an 'Italian Tuneup' [Always fun, when the car cooperates]? - Fiddle with the mixture [the tower on the fuel distributor]? - Or, now that the car can almost be driven, take it to an 'expert' to have the EHA adjusted to some sort of specification? |
