SL500 1995 Rotor Allen screw head partially "stripped"

Anyone have any ideas how I can remove an allen head screw retaining the distributor cap? The head is partially stripped and I gave up trying to remove it to change the rotor. Short of "drilling" this out and possibly messing up the hole, anyone able to think of a tool or some sort of "easy out" that will grab inside the allen head and allow me to remove it?

These should do the trick, Hanson Multi Spline Hex Extractors. There are sets with a range of sizes and you might be able to find individually carded tools in certain sizes also.

If you have the clearance, it would probably be easier to use the bolt extractors...

Yes, it's round on the outside, however the bolt extractors will bite into about anything.

Did you use a 5mm allen wrench?

stripped allen head screws on 1995 SL500 ignition rotors

To all who might have this problem occur. Just get a right angle drill and a left hand direction drill bit ($2.50) and drill out the head of the screw, the rotor comes off and the screw remnant can be removed by hand because there is no longer any tension on the screw. Had to do this for two of the screws, they were corroded in place because the rotors seem to be original and never removed in 10 yrs or more. Steve

I had this happen to me on a M103 rotor and I used a pair of small (the smallest size) vise grips to break it loose.
