1983 W123 230E Buzzer always on

Hi,

I recently got new brake pads installed. When I picked up my car and got in to drive away, I noticed the buzzer was constantly on. I brought this to the attention of the mechanic, and after investigating the fuses and the door buttons, he thought it might be the buzzer relay itself, and told me to bring it by in a few days when he got the part. A day later, the buzzer was going off and on intermittently until it stopped. Recently, when I got in my car and released the parking brake, it came on again full bore and won't quit. It's not the headlight buzzer or the open door buzzer, because when I open the door, I can tell both buzzers are sounding simultaneously one over the other. But I'm not sure which buzzer is actually sounding continuously and for what reason. Any ideas? I haven't gone back to the mechanic yet because since there's a chance he might have created the problem in the first place, I don't know if I trust him to tinker with my car anymore. Is there some buzzer related to the brakes on this model?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Wild guess!! seat belt reminder buzzer? the inner buckle should have wires attached to it so once the belt is firmly inserted, it silences the warning buzzer. So look at the inner buckle next to the console and under the seat for pinched or broken wires. And all this is assuming you wear the seat belt.

There never was a seat belt alarm on this vehicle. It's a pity no one else had any ideas. Looks like I'll have to take it to a shop after all. Thanks anyway.

unplug the "key in ignition" switch which is on the ignition. Remove the underdash panel and unplug the switch.
