Exclamation ETS / BAS warning messages E320 4 matic

Got these warnings today on my 1998 E320 4 matic. The amber BAS/ETS light in the lower left corner of instrument panel is on the all the time. On the multi function indicator, first I get big letters "ETS" above the text EL. TRACTION SUPPORT for a few seconds, then only BAS in big letters. This stays on 'til I reset it. No other lights are on. Brakes seem OK, ABS works right. The yellow triangle #6 indicator light flashes when wheels slip, then goes out when traction is back. Car feels a sloppy on snowy roads. I read the owners manual, a little vague.
Tires are nearly new, good tread, same sizes.

Looking for input on this, what's going on and if this could be a DIY fix.

Thanks, Mike

When computers are involved, reading codes from those 2 computers are the first thing I would do.

Add this to the first thread...... Noticed today, my cruise doesn't work. Was perfect until these warning lights. I read a couple of other comments on other forums relating these warning messages to "brake pedal switches" and "wheel speed sensors". Anybody run into this before? Any info on replacing the above components or how they relate to the warning messages?
