'94 E320 Transmission, won't upshift cold, o.k. hot

My '94 E320 Wagon with 94K miles has, for the last 5 years, not fully upshifted into 4th until about 2 miles of driving. Today, it wouldn't upshift from 2nd gear until the car was fully hot. Once hot, it shifts just fine. Level is o.k. and fluid looks clean. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Probably unrelated, but it has also developed an occasional miss at idle. Not enough to stall but very noticeable at about 700 rpm. I replaced fuel filter and changed plugs but no help.

Mercedes deliberately delays upshifts to facilitate quicker engine warmup, but AFAIK it's usually just the 1-2 upshift.

It's the 2-3 upshift on Ron's '94.

Check vacuum lines first.

It is the 2-3 shift on MOST 1990-95 cars.
Can delay shift untill 3200 RPM.

Fixed itself??

I've been carefully checking each morning after the major problem noted in the first post and my transmission now shifts perfectly - cold or hot.

An old boss of mine would have said that this is a perfect example of "The inate bastardliness of inanimate objects."

Anybody got a better explanation?
