lol yeah maybe in retrospect the design was a bit over the top and perhaps a hair too high...its much better than the original 16" I had.....No idea why I had 16"..its like 5" now..

I did manage to break the damn seat control switch. dont know how. went to adjust the back and the stick was missing..

Anyone care to donate an old driver side 124 seat control lol?

Actually, If I cant source one I might just replace it with some momentary buttons..I can get like 25 off ebay for $5..

Less than 250mA flows through the wires for the switch...

Revision C

Nearly final design.
Might be some slight armrest modifications down the line..

Since I broke the MB switch..Im thinking of going with two position switches (to control direction) and momentary buttons to activate the motor..

Total Cost would be like $15 for 25 of each switch/button...

It appears you have A LOT of free time... ;-)

The second (left) armrest will be a problem, because AFAIK alll armrests were always attached on the right of the seat - even on RHD cars, the armrest was actually attached to the (left side) passenger seat.

Update:

Started and finished the passenger seat today. Went MUCH quicker than the drivers side. Used full armrests for this one.

And Finally..(this is not me btw)

It needs:
* To be battery powered.
* Self propelled.
* It needs a steering wheel.
* Where is the STAR???

Still working on this project. LOL.

Controls have been replaced with standard switches that i installed into some single boxes (the type you use for wall switches and whatnot), these are on the left side of the chair, as if you were in the drivers seat.

I've also added standard outlets to the right side of the chair, for laptops and such..and two USB ports for cell phone charging and what not.

4" cupholders have been installed in the armrests. 4" holesaw + 4" PVC pipe couplers.

I found some outdoor furniture end tables my grandma gave me a while ago, they've been in the garage, being used to store my spare gas tanks on..painted them black and now they're next the chairs.

Future plans:
One day I'll get around to upholstering the chairs.

Still want to make a laptop/keyboard table that spans the cupholders...I found some flexible exhaust pipe looking stuff at Handyman a while ago..figure that would make for a good vertical piece to come out of the cupholder with...

Gentlemen!

An update:

I still havent upholstered the chairs.

I have constructed this!

82 300SD steering wheel on top..
93 190E steering wheel on bottom.

I upgraded my dad's green SD to an early 190E wheel and my 190E to a late 126 wheel

I have to finish up the USB charging features of the chairs, then I think I'll paint the wood black? box the open sections in with thin nice plywood and paint it black? or even foam pad and cover in black vinyl... not sure

Beautiful.

But you need to stain the wood to match stock Zebrano or Burl.... those are the only options!

I was thinking of keeping the armrest wood and vinyl wrapping the sides/back. I like this idea of staining to match the Zebrano.. I never much liked the look of the burl wood. The Zebrano looks cool.

Good idea!

I found this thread over at BenzWorld

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/1214492-wood-finishing-project.html

Wonder how doing that to these would work...

That came out really nice... wonder what color stain he used.

If you don't know, find an older gentleman working in a paint shop.. sometimes Home Depot if you're lucky.. and bring a trim sample with you.

I don't have as much knowledge as teoteodore, but every time I have ever applied clearcoat over stained wood, it changed the color on me. Lights a bitc4 sometimes.

Nice project by the way.

Hrmm we hand stained all the trim in the house here when we remodeled.. It was awhile ago.

Actually, the one piece of trim on the right side of the glovebox door fell off my one SD and I've yet to reglue it.
