is the 722.9 dipstick tool, the same as for 722.6?

No,
The 722.9 fluid level is checked by removing the drain plug at "25-30C trans temp" with the engine running & in Park. should have a few drops come out. If not add fluid.

What this correct answer indicates is that there is no dipstick tube on a 722.9.

If you don't have oil all over the bottom of your car and on your garage floor or driveway, you do not need to "check" your transmission fluid.

Fluid is added to the 722.9 via the drain plug hole, too. Special tools required, and not really a DIY possibility.

I believe that I could do it if I had an example of the pan (which could mean the whole car) to examine. All you need is a hose that seals to the opening, and is long enough to come out the side of the car to a funnel.

Basically the tool has an adapter that is the same thread size as the drain plug & is connected to a reservoir of fluid with a pump. Simply pump the fluid thru the adapter.

sort of looks like those pressurized cannisters from Home Depot for dispensing mixed chemicals.... wonder whether the adpater and one of those would not be the way to save $ if used every 2-3 years.

Also, what does anyone else know about flushing the tranny throught the transmission cooler return line?
