Timing Chain/Guides question
How many guides are there to replace? Anyone have a specific list of them? Just trying to figure out what and how many to order in a week or two.
Oh yeah, 1991 420SEL. ![]() |

depends if you're going to do all of them. hopefully you have the CD or shop manual. If you are going to do all of them, you have to take the front of the engine off. Other wise there are a couple at the top end that a lot of people change.
not an expert here, but ended up having all of mine changed when meant taking off the front of the engine on my '86 560SEL

Three "guides" and the chain tensioner "guide". You won't have to do the ones in the bottom of the engine. Order the cam oiler tube plastic pieces too, and a pair of valve cover rubber gaskets.
