Delo 15w-40 in 91 300E for oil change?

I have a real quick question, I remember reading on a thread that many of you who own 300E's put diesel oil in them for an additive that in not manufactured into normal gasoline engine oil anymore and also for the fact the diesel oil has many detergents that help keep a 300E's crankcase squeaky clean.

My question is, is it alright to put Delo 15w-40 in my 300E? That's all I can find of Delo, no lower viscosity. The temperature has been fluctuating here quite a bit, it's kind of spicy here one day (76-77oF) and then can get to (36-47oF) is this oil viscosity ok to put in?

thanks all

Works good for me.

I've been using it my 89 300 SE since last summer and the M103 seems like like it just fine. Temp ranges have been 90+ to -15 degrees F. I started using it for the reasons you are contemplating.

It will probably work fine. I use synthetic diesel oil (5w40) because it flows better when it is 0F around here....

caltex delo

After reading quite a few posts on Delo oil usage i have started using it in my 300se ,normally i have been using it in my turbo diesel SUV only.

In 103 engine usage i have noticed that the cold start clatter of the hydraulic
lifters has ceased completely . Initially they would clatter for a few seconds on startup.

The M103's love diesel oil, mine is smooth and quiet even at 0F...no clatter at all. The 617 is not so calm at 0F!

Oh man after reading these, I want to put it in right now!!! LOL I also had that clatter for a few seconds upon cold starts, so it's nothing to worry about?

I started running Mobil1 15-40 and Delo 15-40 in both my cars. Can't say they "sound" any happier, but I know this is a much better oil with the additive package for our camshafts. There are too many oil arguments....so regardless of which you choose, just change it hot, and change it often. I keep mine to 4k-5k changes on the dot and my valvetrain on my 300TE looks brand spankin new.
