passenger seat sensor

M-B enthusiasts. I have a 2005 320 CDI which is great. Anything put on the passenger seat (such as a book or even lighter) sets off the very annoying chime. I have to attach the seatbelt when driving on long trips because I have maps drinks ect. on the passenger seat. Fuse F035 I think will disable the chime but the light on the dash will stay on (thats ok). Will this disable air bags or cause any problems? Is there an easy way to disable this noise. Can I unplug the electrical connection under the seat? Seat comes out easy but I don't know which one it is.- Thanks Steve

You should be able to place small items on the seat without any problem. If you need to put heavier items on the seat, such as a briefcase, you'll need to keep the belt latched. You might want to have the seat calibration checked. It's very likely that the seat sees a few pounds of weight even though the seat is empty. If this is the case, even small items placed on the seat will put it over the limit, and cause the chime to activate. A simple re-calibration should fix it.
