w201 sheared sway bar stud

Well...

This weekend I spotted a sheared bolt on the drivers side outer most mount. I picked up a Grade 12 bolt to replace it and when I was loosening the lower one to reset the retainer plate the lower one sheared off. I'm not sure how long the top one had been sheared off..

Anyone have any recommendations on repairing this?

Thanks!

Kris

You should be able to drill out what's left of the old bolts. Run a tap through the holes to clean up the threads and pop in your new bolts. That's all I can come up with ATM.

This is fairly common and can be repaired.

The sheared stud is actually a captured bolt with its head welded to the inside of the little four legged "box" on the LCA. The task is to open the box, remove the sheared off bolt head and replace it with a welded-in nut. This allows the use of a larger diameter bolt to secure the ARB half moon clamp.

It is a simple 30 minute job: With a hacksaw cut the lower leg of the box off where it meets the LCA. Bend the leg back to access the sheared bolt head and knock same off with a chisel. Clean up the bolt hole, weld a nut to the inside of the box, bend the leg back into position and weld it back to the LCA.

Regards,
bobf

dude i paid $80 each for brand new 190e lca's with the sport bushings. my advice, look at your bushings. if they're shot, go on ebay and buy new lca's and you will kill two birds with one stone

Snap.. I forgot to post that I had it fixed. I'll have to get a picture of what they did eventually. It only cost me $20.

Lol my 201 is doing well right now..aside from the lack of a/c... I'm probably gonna park the 201 repair the a/c, repair my adjustable rear camber arms and do some painting on a few parts. I'll drive my SD for a while, it has nice a/c, just have to figure out wtf was leaking from it and get my new idle adjust bolt cut down to size. Its a bit large right now:
