Make your own cluster removal tool

I just made my own cluster removal tool out of a tent stake. I just took a couple of large channel-locks and bent about 1/2 inch on the straight end...slightly more than 90 degrees...that is the end to insert into the cluster. The other end is already bent and can be used for gripping your new tool! See attached picure

There are many posts here on how to remove the cluster once you have the tool. Good luck!!

BTW, I used this on my W210's (E300D), however it may also work on other models

Might even work better than the factory tool, as the small hook on the factory tool can slip off and damage the lense on the cluster. Looks a little thick, though.

The price is good;-).....it goes in just fine on my W210's...had to replace a few bulbs....not sure about other models though.

I made mine out of an old stainless steel CB antenna. Perfect thickness and quite strong.

But what if you get a breaker one nine on the ol CB? How you gonna modulate with all your diesel drivin buddies out on the ol superslab? Come back?

pffft, lightweights....all of you. Chuck Norris simply made a sudden move in
the direction of the panel and glared at it. the IP jumped right out into his hands.

Oooooh, that's hard on the old speedo cable though.

I really would keep this as thin as possible, because of the possibility of cracking the dashboard vinyl around the cluster. I made mine out of wire designed for model airplane gear that I happened to find at a hobby store. Very thin, strong, but bendable.

I used a hacksaw blade, bent carefully and slowly
