Help - Which MB?
Hi All,
My Mercedes experience is the 80 vintage diesel area. My oldest is going to be leaving the nest at the end of this school year and we are planning to get her a car. Her initial thoughts were a new TDI Jetta but without sharing my opinion I decided to investigate other options. So I ask myself is she better off with a used Mercedes at or about the same price as a new TDI. Safety, Reliability as well as fun and maintenance costs are part of the consideration. Given the prices, I have been thinking about a convertible, not sure yet if a 2 or 4 seater. Thanks for any information. BR

I don't know either you or your daughter but if it was me I would buy her what she wants. Just my $0.02. Good luck.

Isn't a new Jetta TDI over $20k to start? You could probably buy two or three nice 300SDs or 300Ds for that price. With that being said, a new TDI will have many more safety features and will probably offer just as much if not more reliability. There is also the added bonus of a warranty and if I'm not mistaken, VW pays for servicing for the first few years of ownership.

I like the new TDI, but its a lot more money up front. Is she just going to park it on the curb? That's a good way to wreck a car, parallel parking, left in the sun 24/7, party-goers in the back, you get the picture.
I think get her a MB for college, THEN a nice next gen TDI once she's gotten her diploma. She'll gain an appreciation for MB, if not already by now. |
