M119 Timing Resistor

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where the timing resistor is located on a 1993 400E? I want to remove it or change the resistor value to see if it makes any difference. Possibly put a POT on there so I can dial it in for 92 Octane. A part number would also help. Thanks!

Are your refering to the EZL. It controls the timing. It is a black module with wires running to it. You can see it located on the driverside fender wall. I suggest you not play with it. The EZL is pricey for M119 Engines.

From what I am told it is a Resistor that retards the timing by 6 degrees for low octane American fuel and removing the resitor puts it at 0.

Resistors are NOT pricey. These smucks that charge $15+ each are just flat ripping people off.

An average 5 watt resistor can be picked up at about any electronics store for a buck or two.

A friend just had some AC work done on a Chrysler .. one line item was a 'resistor' at $17 and change.

I just picked up a bunch of 250 ohm 2 watt pots for about .60 each from our favorite auction site.
