Automatic Window Retrofit?

Hey guys,

Since summer is among us, my windows once again come to mind.

I was wondering today while holding the switch down to close my window, if I could somehow install the automatic switches like in a W140.

I could care less about the stop feature, but just so I don't have to strain my hand for the 10 seconds or so while cruising on the highway...

Anyone heard of/done such a thing?

Thanks,

Carlen

It's more than just the switches, it's Hall sensors and a control module, like you say, for the safety stuff. It all has to work together, it's not like the switches themselves do the job. So you can't just put in switches from a car that has express opening and expect it to work, as a matter of fact they probably would open the windows at all!

For some reason as I woke up this morning, my brain toyed with the idea of using antenna switches...

I know that in our 740iL, it doesn't have any halting mechanism... Not sure if the W210 has it either...

They don't. The auto-windows on the later cars are much more complicated than the normal power windows on the older cars....it is part of the "convenience control system"

And what a great system it is But it is a pretty cool feature over the early cars. I also like the hold key in door and all the windows shut and sunroof shuts. I only wish all the windows could auto open by holding the key the other way.

Only the front windows are auto-down though. The rear ones you still have to hold. I'm not sure if you could install a set of four "front" switches to get the rears to function the same. Doubt it.
