I've been told that you must take the car to a dealer to have codes removed once they come in there is this true???

No, the flash code reader that you were advised to build in post #2 above several weeks ago will both read and delete codes.

The code reader is really not that hard to build. Just buy the parts listed and lay them out on a table like in the schematic. I did it and I don't have any electronics experience. If you can solder you can do it. Otherwise you will just be guessing.
