1992 300TE, 124 chassis.
How do you remove regulator and motor when motor does not function and it is stuck with window up? I need to remove regulator intact to use in other car. |

There is a clip that holds the reg to the window...Usually once you get that out along w/ the various nuts/bolts you Can wiggle it free..
Have you tried bringing 12V to the motor directly, ie w/ a jump box?? Jonathan

if that won't work you can get radical and break the glass, then with screws out you can get to what you need.

I've removed several 124 regulators, front and rear, with the windows up. Just pull all of the nuts, the regulator will come free from the inside of the door, allowing the window to slide down and you can then remove the final nut from the bottom of the window frame.

I removed the regular from my parts car with broken motor by drilling out the spot welds at the bottom of the regulator track. That way I could slide the the part the fits to the bottom of the window out.
Put it back together with strong stainless steel rivits. Track was a little bent so I made a window stop and installed on track so window will only go down about half way. These regulators are of extremely poor design. The cable can bind in the spool and the thing will not work. I removed motor from one regulator and put it in the regulator I recovered from my parts car. I plan to disconnect power to rear windows so they will not go down. Quite frankly they are so poorly design I'm suprised they fucntion at all. I can see why break with very, very, little use. ![]() Last edited by Ron in SC; 09-12-2010 at 07:34 AM. |

Maybe I'm the odd-man-out, but I use my windows and sunroof constantly, only use A/C when it is un-bearably hot, which means that both RT windows go down and up a minimum of 2x/day, more if I go anywhere other than the office as I always close and lock my car.
I've been doing this through several 124s starting in '91 with my TE. I have NEVER had a problem with a rear window regulator, even with this use and my children loving to continuously run windows, ... I have had one driver's window regulator fail, a used '87 300D that had a stripped gear near the top, a smoker's car where the window was apparently used as an ashtray opening and closing that last 2" regularly (indicated by the burned felt). I don't understand how this is a bad design, but then I'm one of few on this forum who has owned 124s new, so most of us are buying someone else's trouble, ... hard to know how it was serviced/used etc. Last, I have removed several window regulators from 124s, have them sitting around in case I ever need one, from my own parts cars and from junkyard find 124s, all of them were without batteries and needed to be removed with the windows completely closed. There is NO REASON to drill or damage the regulator to remove it on a 124, just remove all of the 10mm hex-nuts holding the regulator assembly to the door, it will drop down. Really that simple.
