New door check strap - lubrication required?
I just installed a new door check strap on my '88 300CE, but didn't lubricate it. Also, there was a plastic shroud which I left off, as the original broken strap didn't have one.
The part cost $31.50 from the dealer, so I'll probably leave well enough alone and replace it years from now if it wears out before I do. Anyone know the purpose of the plastic shroud? Should I re-do this project for that and lubrication? Thanks for any input. |

The cover is there to keep DIRT out of the grease on the strap.

The strap comes lubricated, the cover keeps the lubricant from washing away. Its your call now that you know how to do it, it will probably last for years.
