W126 ASR

I was wondering about ASR on the W126. Particular, 1991. I think that was the only year offered for U.S. sales.

Anyway. I do not have the caution triangle on the speedo, but if we assume its been replaced with a cluster that lacks it, how would I go about knowing if its installed.

I only ask because the car has buckets of power, but today I decided to go Top Gear on it in the rain and I could not for the life of me get the rear tires to slip traction. Also the engine bucket down something fierce, but I am not sure if ASR retards timing anyway.

Or if someone knows the build sheet code?

Thumbs up

Find a good link to that Russian VIN decoder via the search here, it will give you the options on your car.

I have the options. And the VIN site has been down for some time. Will it actually say on it or is it one of the obscure codes that has no description?

If you have ASR you should have a snow chain switch in the center console. If not then no ASR.

The ABS unit under the hood would also be larger, and say ABS ASR on it. In addition there would be two rear wheel speed sensors instead of just one like with ABS or ASD.

I would be happy to not have it on an early car, just more stuff to fail.
