Spring Cap Choices
At 120K, I want to change the front and rear springs on my 87 560SL. My parts book lists 3 different heighth spring caps for use on the front and rear. Does anyone know which one is the stock height to use? I know that taking the spring out and duplicating what's there is one answer, but I don't want to run to the parts counter in mid job. Appreciate all replies...Thanks much

Pull off the wheels, and look att he pads. you should see some little bumps or nipples on the pad on the bottom near where it connects to the spring.
You can also run your vin number by your dealer and they should be able to look it up for you as to which ones came on your car. The spring pads are to adjustt he car to as close to a standard ride height as it can be, some cars might have thinner pads because they sat higher from the factory. Others might have thicker because they sat lower. The spring pads can also be used to lower the car if you have thicker ones, by putting on thinner ones. IT all dpeends on what is on the car, so your best bet is to pull the wheels off fron and rear and inspect them, then go get the right ones formt he dealer, or go get thinner ones if you want to drop the car a bit.
